Custom Work

Around here everything is custom.  Even if you want a knife "just like" something you saw in Examples of Our Work what you'll get is one with handle dimensions sized for your hand, and we're always happy to adjust blade lengths and widths as well as handle materials and finish.  We really don't make any "production" knives because they're all made one at a time, by hand.

We welcome orders for purely custom knives; that perfect knife you've been wanting but can't seem to find.  We'll be happy to work with you on a concept or make one from your design provided that the design is workable.  When working from your design we'll obviously want drawings of what you want and a description of what materials and finish you want.  We don't need or want "blueprints"; one or more simple, scaled drawings will suffice.  We strongly encourage you to make a cardboard mock-up of your design to get a feel for scale and dimensions.  If you want us to make a sheath for the knife we'll want a description and, perhaps, a drawing of that as well.  We'll be happy to discuss all of the issues with you until both you and we are confident that we understand what is to be done and how much it is going to cost.  Once we all agree on the work and price your order will go into the queue.

If you haven't done so already you might want to take a look at how we make knives, our thoughts on knives and steel, some information on handle materials and some examples of our work.

We don't require a prepayment for custom work unless the knife you want made is unlikely to be salable to someone else, in which case we do require a non-refundable 50% prepayment before we start work on the knife.

All work is done on a first-order-in, first-order-out basis.  We don't prioritize orders in any other way.  We try very hard to give you an accurate completion date at the time we take your order and to keep that promise because we know from experience how frustrating and annoying it can be otherwise.  If your order requires a prepayment we'll notify you a couple of weeks ahead of the time we can start work on your knife (possibly earlier if unusual materials need to be found) so that your knife can be completed on time.

Don't hesitate to write (email or snailmail) or give us a call with your requirements or just to discuss the possibilities.
