We hand-saddle-stitch sheaths and they all have a welt. If you want yours put together with brass or nickel tacks, we can do that as well.
All sheaths are treated (inside and out) with Montana Pitch-Blend paste which is a formulation of 100% mink oil, beeswax and pine pitch. That's all that's in it. There are no silicon compounds in the stuff, it's very waterproof, it doesn't particularly soften the leather, and it smells nice.
For guardless knives we usually make pouch-form sheaths. For knives with a guard we usually make case sheaths with a strap secured on the knife's edge side with a Sam Browne stud. They are made from 8-10 oz. vegetable-tanned, hard-rolled horse butts. We like horse butts because they mold well and are very hard, providing just about the best protection for you and your knife achievable with leather.
If you prefer a case sheath with a leather lace loop that goes through a hole in the handle, we'll do that for you instead of a strap on a case-type sheath for any knife. The hole in the knife's handle for the lace loop is lined with either thin-walled stainless steel or brass tubing or something else at your option.
You pick the carry configuration. We'll make the sheath for left side, right side, cross-draw or small-of-the-back carry at your option.
